PAC10 Countdown
Important Dates
Welcome
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) invites you to attend our annual Pharmacy Australia Congress (PAC). As the pharmacy profession’s premier education event for pharmacists, PAC attracts up to 1000 delegates annually and brings together PSA members and non members, as well as industry professionals, to learn and network in a relaxed environment.
PAC 2010 will be held at the purpose built Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This spectacular venue will facilitate displays and ensure sessions are held in the best possible environment where top flight national and international speakers will address the theme of Star Performance – the future for pharmacy.
The theme is based on the World Health Organisation’s Seven Star Pharmacist principles which will be examined and discussed during the Congress.
PAC 2010 will continue to provide a topical and comprehensive program covering a wide range of educational, business and practice subjects, which will increase delegates’ specific knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviours in support of their expanding roles as pivotal professionals in the multi-disciplinary health-care model towards which Australia is rapidly moving. PAC 2010 will provide you with a comprehensive educational program and a social program that will leave you wanting more.
We look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne in October.

What is a Seven Star Pharmacist?
PAC 2010 is using the Seven Star Pharmacist principles as the basis of its over-arching theme of Star Performance – the future for pharmacy.
These principles were introduced by the World Health Organisation to clarify the expanding and important role that pharmacists have to play, as vital members of the health care team, in promoting the efffective, rational and safe use of medicines and optimising patient outcomes. The specific knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviours to support this are summarised in ‘the seven star pharmacist’ whose attributes are:
-
Caregiver – the pharmacist provides high-quality caring services, integrated and continuous with the health care system.
-
Decision Maker – the pharmacist can make decisions to achieve appropriate, efficacious, safe and cost effective use of resources.
-
Communicator – the pharmacist provides a link between physician and patient and should be knowledgeable and confident while interacting with health professionals and the public.
-
Leader – the pharmacist is obligated to assume a leadership position in the welfare of the community.
-
Manager – the pharmacist must effectively manage resources (human, physical and fiscal) and information.
-
Lifelong Learner – pharmacists should be committed to learning throughout their careers.
-
Teacher – the pharmacist has a responsibility to assist with the education and training of future pharmacists and consumers.
